Sports and Activities
Surfing
At the core of any MBX experience is surfing. It’s the simplest, most stripped down way to have fun in the water. All you need is a surfboard and a wave. So there’s no better place to start. Instructors delve into water safety, wave knowledge, paddling technique, basic and advanced maneuvers and board design.
Kayaking
Kayaking is one of the oldest forms of transportation known. Recently it has experienced and explosion in popularity because of it’s simplicity, flexibility and beauty. The kids will be guided through all aspects of this growing sport. Instructors discuss safe boating, paddling form, steering, equipment, navigation, wildlife and habitat.
Wakeboarding
Wakeboarding has always been a favorite of the campers. Similar to waterskiing, wakeboarding is a fast-paced sport where the student is towed behind a motorboat. We bring the kids out on a calm, uncrowded bay with a team of professional wakeboarding instructors. Safety is always our first priority, but because we split the camp into smaller groups, the kids are always active and have an awesome experience. The campers also get to try wakeskating and go tubing.
Stand-up Paddling
A recent addition to the camp program, stand-up paddling provides another means of riding waves and touring estuaries. You stand on a giant surfboard and propel yourself using a paddle, just like the ancient Hawaiians did. If the surf goes flat, stand-up paddling allows kids to keep working on their balance, body position, and footwork for more advanced surfing maneuvers.
Ocean Swim and Rescue
We believe it’s essential for all campers to have a good understanding of the ocean. Our ocean certified lifeguards teach campers about a variety of ocean conditions, what to look for to identify unsafe settings, and various self-rescue techniques they can use if caught in an adverse situation. Ocean-specific swim techniques are taught and Red Cross-accredited swim cards are distributed that reflect each swimmers ability-level at the end of the week.
